Chiang Dao Cave is a famous cave of Chiang Mai in the area of Chiang Dao district located at Wat Tham Chiang Dao temple at the hillside of Doi Ruang Chiang Dao. This cave is a sacred place, but it’s open to traveller. In the past, this cave is the pracetice of the hermit and the Lanna Buddhist monk.It’s said that at Chiang Dao Cave used to have 3 Buddhist saint nirvana(two sleep nirvana and last one walking nirvana). In addition, the area of the cave is Chiang Dao sacred mountain believ that is the static of “Jao Ruang Khum Dang” God of Genesis of the Lanna people. Chiang Dao Cave of meditation of monks inside the cave enshrined Luang Pho Than Jai built by U khan Tha shan hermit who traveled to the pilgrimage in Chiang Dao district and has cooperated with villagers to built a pagoda 25 top in 1913, later Kruba Srivichai was built and restored as a tham Chiang Dao temple until now. There is also a legend of Chiang Dao Cave in the past there was Jao Ruang Khum dang son of ruler of Phra Yao that set out to find a girl who transformed into a golden deer, Which lost in Chiang Dao Cave when Jao Ruang came in, he didn’t come back but becomes a guardian of Chiang Dao Cave. The villagers built a shrine dedicated to him and call as “Shrine of Pho Ruang Khum Dang”. According to legend said that on the night with a good vision, The bright sky it appears circle light like a floating relics floating out of behin Chiang Dao Moutain. The villagers are believed that must be the spirits of Jao Ruang Khum Dang visiting his hometown in Phra Yao
