DES HOMMES ET DES TEMPLES

Des Hommes et des Temples est une exposition photographique portant sur la conservation du patrimoine khmer en Thailande et au Cambodge. Elle souligne l’engagement remarquable et la forte collaboration entre les chercheurs thais et français dans le domaine patrimonial depuis plus d’un siècle, en parallèle aux travaux de restauration menés par l’EFEO à Angkor. Les photographies sélectionnées parmi les fonds d’archives publics et privés, tant en France qu’en Thaïlande, proposent un voyage dans l’histoire de l’archéologie monumentale. Elles évoquent les moments majeurs des premières restaurations à Angkor  et en Isaan, à Phimay, Phanom Rung puis Phanom Wan. Depuis les ruines envahies sous la forêt jusqu’aux temples à la splendeur retrouvée, les photographies retracent la complexité et l‘ampleur de la tâche accomplie.

Men and Temples is a photographic exhibition on the conservation of Khmer heritage in Cambodia and Thailand. It underlines the remarkable commitment and deep collaboration between Thai and French scholars in the area of national heritage for over a century, in parallel with restoration and conservation by the EFEO at Angkor. These photographs, chosen from both public and private archives, both in France and Thailand, propose a voyage into the history of monumental archaeology. They evoke major moments in the first restorations achieved at Angkor and in Isaan at Phimay, Phanom Rung and then Phanom Wan. From ruins lost in the forest to temples of rediscovered splendor, the photographs retrace the complexity and grandeur of the work accomplished.
