Chiang Mai REFORM

Chiang Mai, located on the Upper Ping River, has been a centre of politics, administration and commerce for over seven centuries. A unique location for exchange by people from many different lands, it is a melting pot that has created a culturally diverse community.

Because of this unique identity, Chiang Mai is a city in constant evolution. From the time of its establishment as the royal capital uniting the city-states of Lanna, to its domination by the Burmese Taungoo Empire, its liberation and joining with the Kingdom of Siam, followed by its rapid development into a prosperous economy, the city has faced many challenges. Over seven hundred years after its founding, Chiang Mai firmly stands upon deep roots of cultural heritage in the present day. Essential to facing these challenges have been the people of Chiang Mai. Workers, artisans, thinkers, and leaders took initiative and reformed this great city in response to the events they all experienced.

The Chiang Mai REFORM Photography Exhibition presents work by local photographers, academic instructors, and students. Their photographic art reflects the stories of Chiang Mai, bringing to the community the history, livelihood, places, and contemporary issues of a city experiencing continuous development and reformation.
